Projects
Mark Barrett, BSc, MSc,
C.Eng, MIQ, MiMM
Managing Director and Senior Geotechnical Engineer
- Arkwright Village, Derbyshire: A complex ground remediation scheme for a 14 million pound housing development and included excavation of shallow coal workings and recompaction of backfill, including surcharging for rapid re-development, shaft capping, drilling and grouting of ironstone workings and the supervision of major drainage works.
- Chesterfield to Mansfield - A632 Highway, Derbyshire: The construction of a single span bridge to carry the diverted highway and all associated services over an opencast mining haul road between Chesterfield and Bolsover.
- A large colliery, Derbyshire: The replacement of a bailey bridge carrying internal coal traffic across an operating mineral railway line.
- Quarry Regulations 1999 - Slope stability assessments for various opencast coal sites, hard rock quarries, clay quarries and sand and gravel pits.
Steve Matthews, MBE,
BSc, MSc, CGeol, FGS
Senior Engineering Geologist
- Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield: Multi phase mine treatment prior to the construction of the stadium, with Norwest Holst.
- Pentland Retail Park, Edinburgh: Multi phase mine treatment prior to the construction of the park, with Keller Colcrete.
- Maentwrog New Dam, Wales: Complex curtain/blanket grouting operation during the construction of the new dam, with Keller Colcrete.
Andy Wright, BA, MSc
Geologist
- Geological/Mining Assessment: Desk top investigation of mining history and future mineral potential of a large landholding in Yorkshire. Assessment of reserves of opencast coal, clay and brick shales.
- Site Investigation of contaminated development land on former industrial areas.
- PPC Applications: Preparation of documents for Pollution Prevention and Control applications to the Environment Agency for waste disposal sites in Yorkshire.
- Environmental Risk Assessment: Desk top studies of land parcels in former coal mining areas, indicating potential hazards to future development and potential liabilities from former uses of the land.
- Sheffield City Airport: Prospecting, geological modelling and assessment of the opencast coal reserves under a derelict steelworks. Opencast mine design and restoration design of the landform for the Sheffield City Airport. Following the recovery of 1.5 million tonnes of coal, the airport became operational in 1997.
- Geological Modelling and Prospecting: Many and various UK opencast coal reserves, ranging in size up to six million tonnes. Projects often involved steeply dipping and/or heavily faulted strata, multi-seam prospects and multi-layer old workings.
Mel Jones, BSc (Hons)
